Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose the right industrial heater?

Start by defining your process temperature, the medium being heated (liquid, gas, solid surface, or radiant target), the physical space available, your power supply voltage, and your control requirements. Each of these parameters narrows the field of suitable heater types and configurations. For example, a process requiring heat inside a metal mould at 250°C with a drilled hole for element insertion points directly to a cartridge heater in stainless steel. A process requiring non-contact heating of a moving plastic film points to an infrared heater. If you share your process details with our engineering team, we will provide a specific recommendation with justification.

Which industries use infrared heaters?

Imported ceramic infrared heaters and short wave infrared heaters supplied by Heat Source are used across a wide range of industries. The most significant users are automotive manufacturing (paint and coating curing), plastics processing (thermoforming, welding, pre-heating), food processing (baking, browning, drying), pharmaceuticals (tablet coating drying, packaging), textiles (heat-setting, drying), wood and furniture (coating curing, adhesive activation), electronics (solder reflow, adhesive curing), glass processing (tempering, bending), and paper and printing (ink drying, coating curing). Any industry that processes materials or surfaces that absorb infrared radiation efficiently is a candidate for infrared heating technology.

Do you supply industrial heaters across India?

Yes. Heat Source supplies industrial heating equipment to clients across all states and major industrial zones in India. We dispatch from our Mumbai manufacturing facility through established freight partners, with standard delivery times of 3–10 business days for in-stock and standard products. Custom-manufactured heating elements are available but you can get the number of days of delivery by connecting with our team.

What quality certifications and testing standards do your products meet?

Heat Source supplies industrial heating products that meet applicable quality and compliance standards, including CE marking and RoHS compliance where applicable. Imported infrared heaters are sourced from trusted manufacturers and supplied with relevant quality documentation where applicable.

What temperature range do industrial heaters support?

The operating temperature range of industrial heaters varies by type and construction. Tubular and cartridge heaters in standard stainless steel construction are rated to sheath temperatures of 450–600°C, while Incoloy-sheathed elements can operate continuously to 850°C and Inconel variants to over 1,100°C. Ceramic infrared heaters achieve surface temperatures of 300–700°C. Short wave infrared heaters operate at filament temperatures of 1,800–2,600°C. High-temperature resistance furnace elements can operate above 1,400°C in controlled atmospheres. Our engineering team can advise on the appropriate construction for your specific process temperature and environment.

How long do industrial heaters last?

Service life varies by heater type and operating conditions. Correctly specified and properly installed industrial heating elements achieve the following typical service lives: tubular heaters 10,000–20,000 hours, cartridge heaters 5,000–15,000 hours, ceramic infrared heaters 8,000–15,000 hours, and short wave infrared heaters 5,000–10,000 hours. The most common causes of premature failure are operating above rated watt density, poor thermal contact between heater and load, moisture ingress at terminations, mechanical shock or vibration, and incorrect control settings that allow overtemperature. Elements that are correctly specified, properly installed, and operated within rated parameters consistently achieve or exceed their design life.

Which infrared heater is best for thermoforming?

Short wave infrared heaters are generally the preferred choice for thermoforming applications. Their ability to reach full operating power in one to three seconds, combined with high power density and deep penetration into thermoplastic materials, enables rapid and uniform heating of plastic sheets to forming temperature. This translates into shorter cycle times, higher throughput, and more consistent forming quality compared to medium wave or convection pre-heating systems. For specific thermoplastics particularly those with strong medium wave absorptivity or thick cross-sections requiring more gentle, even heat penetration medium wave infrared may be more appropriate. Our application engineers can recommend the optimal solution based on your material, sheet thickness, line speed, and forming process.
